Drain cleaning is one tool in the array of trenchless pipeline repairs that USA Pipe Repair uses to support both our residential and commercial customers in Richmond, Virginia and beyond. Trenchless refers to the fact that these repair methods do not require any digging down into the ground to conduct our services.
In previous decades, the only way to reach and treat the pipeline was to dig a trench along the property, straight through driveways and walkways if necessary, in order to unearth the pipeline. At that point, if the pipeline was cracked or broken, the old pipe had to be cut out and removed, and a new piece installed. Once the repair was completed the trench had to be filled in, then the property owner would have the landscaping repaired, and possibly a new driveway or walkway poured. All of these steps required both time and finances. The disruption to the building’s usability was measured in weeks.
The timeline for most trenchless pipeline repairs can be measured in hours or days, not weeks. Only one technician or a few are required to perform the operations. No digging is required.
When water starts to drain slowly from a sink or shower, it is a sign that a drain cleaning should be performed before a total blockage begins to occur. A drain cleaning can be performed within a few hours.
Sewer Camera Inspections
A drain cleaning begins with a pipeline camera inspection. This process lets us quickly assess the condition of your pipes. Any blockages or cracks can be easily located. We insert a robotic camera into your pipeline, then the camera sends video feedback to our technician. The camera can be inserted via the curved p-trap that exists under any sink. The p-trap also catches items accidently dropped down a sink drain. Once our technician determines that the p-trap is clear, the camera can be inserted. We are also able to insert a larger camera into the outside access point for the pipeline. This camera can move robotically from the building to the pipeline’s connection with the curbside city main.
Once the camera inspection is complete, the drain cleaning can be performed. This process, called hydro jetting, utilizes highly pressurized water and a multi directional, water-jetting nozzle. The force of the water scours clean any rough patches along the inside of the pipeline wall and bursts apart any root balls that have gained access through a small crack.
Trenchless Crack Repairs
When cracks are identified during the inspection and cleaning, USA Pipe Repair uses a cured in place pipe (CIPP) lining to create a new, durable interior pipeline wall. This trenchless process is comprised of an inflatable liner coated with an epoxy resin that is inserted into the pipeline. After the liner is inflated, the resin is pressed against the interior pipe wall to allow bonding to occur. Once the resin has cured, the liner is deflated and removed. A new, smooth interior pipeline wall remains.
