Case Studies On Local Trenchless Pipe Lining Projects

Richmond receives its fair share of rain in summer, most of it in June, July, and August. The specific period from spring to summer, from May to September, sees a lot of rainfall.

The effects of excess rainwater and flooding reach many local properties. Many areas are below sea level, making it worse. Water goes into many drains and even municipal sewer systems. This also affects sewers, creating health hazards.

Aside from water, other items clog up drains, such as grease, organic waste, tree roots, and debris. It's also not uncommon to encounter other random items thrown into drains and sewer lines as well. Over the years, we have received and resolved local service calls on different cases. Most of them used trenchless pipe lining in Richmond, VA.

Addressing Lower Level Flooding

One of the common calls we dealt with involved the lack of proper sump pumps to handle increased rainfall. We had to install them to stop low area flooding. These devices move water and flooding, often in basements and lower parts of the home. This is often due to the area's water table being higher than the foundation of the home. Left unaddressed, they cause water damage and affect sewer lines.

Another solution we offered is to install a backwater valve. It stops sewage from flowing back to the house, often installed in the waste pipe. Local plumbing codes require this important device. It's crucial, especially if the floor is below the nearest upstream manhole.

Using NonDisruptive Repair Methods In Historic Homes

Richmond has many historic properties. There are different challenges involved when they need pipe repairs. Original plumbing layouts, structures, pipe materials, and the very building itself pose difficulties. Excavation-based methods are non-negotiable here. The best solution was cured-in-place pipe or CIPP pipe lining.

We worked on one of these houses back in 2018. We were the right company for the job. Our specialization in trenchless sewer pipe line repair makes us the best choice.

Our client has a townhome with a basement, and the sewer area at the back had landscaping and stonework on it. The sewer exit was in the back area with a walkthrough shed towards an alleyway. Using trenchless technology made it possible to replace sewer line piping. The stone patio and house remained unaffected.

We removed six bricks from the wall and proceeded with pipe bursting to create a new sewer line in the basement. It connected to the city's main line. The trenchless sewer pipe lining replacement was successful. We created a new pipe without affecting landscaping, stonework, and structures. Imagine having to excavate historic property for such a project.

Behind The Wall Pipe Lining

One of the cases we worked on was a damaged vent pipe behind a wall. It was in an upstairs bathroom leading to the basement. Upon inspection, we discovered that the pipe already sustained severe damage.

We got to work creating an access point and saw that there was around 7 feet of workable pipe stretch. The connection to the upstairs bathroom was still in good condition. To prepare the pipe, we descaled it to make it smooth. From the attic, we cut the pipe and commenced pipe lining down to the bathroom and to the basement. We also used a PVC piece to connect to the main line.

The last part involved reinstating the connection between the bathroom and the vent. The result was still effective, for a part that had no remaining pipe to apply pipe lining. The subcontractor commented about the smooth job, despite pipe lining through thin air. Our material bridged gaps this way.

A Broken Water Line Repair

In some instances, we have to use some excavation methods for an effective repair. One of our services calls needed to repair a leaking Quest coupling at the water meter. This job required excavation to do a direct removal and replacement. We used a 3⁄4 brass compression coupling.

Trenchless Water Line Replacement

One of our service calls needed a new water line from the meter to the house. The location of the line made things more complicated. It was on a landscaped yard with a custom patio and bush greenery that had existed for 15 years. There was also a power line and gas line buried below the front yard.

We started by creating a 2" by 2" access point at the meter, away from the utilities. We bore through the ground using a drill strapped to our trailer, using our truck as a weight. Then, we installed a 3⁄4-inch K copper water line with a 10-year warranty, after which we inspected it and covered it up. The whole project took only 6 hours to complete.
