Home / Repair Broken Water LineThe Advantages Of Excavation-Based Repairs

Excavation repairs are still an essential method in plumbing. Despite its very invasive and disruptive nature, it has its own advantages and uses. Your specialist plumber in Richmond, VA, will recommend it in certain situations for the best long-term solution.

Excavation-Based Repairs And When They Are Most Suitable

Before trenchless methods, all sewer and plumbing repairs were excavation-based. The process in between enabled custom changes not available in trenchless repairs.

For one, the direct access in excavations allows for external inspection and repair. The plumbing company can also relocate and change the pipe placement. It prevents repeat instances of external damage. This makes it possible to relocate away from tree roots or direct external impact. Direct removal and replacement also enable specific choices in pipe material for installations.

Plumbing services also use this method in instances when trenchless repair or replacement won’t work. For example, severely damaged or collapsed pipes are not compatible with trenchless methods. The state of the pipes makes it impossible to facilitate the layering and curing process.

Our Past Work

In one of our projects, we used traditional excavation to repair a leaking Quest coupling. In cases such as this, trenchless was not possible. The best way to repair this type of plumbing was to dig up the fitting. This allowed for direct access, removal, and replacement with specific pipe material.

We replaced it with a very specific part, which was a 3⁄4 compression coupling made of brass. This is not possible with a trenchless repair job. It was a more suitable method, along with being able to choose the specific pipe material.

One of our previous works was for a damaged drain line. Plumbing technicians used pipe lining at one end of the drain line. The rest of the pipe up to the other end was already rusted and deteriorated. To provide a complete restoration, we dug the other end of the pipe outside the house on the sidewalk and replaced it.
